Listen: Bassin’ Out by Janissary Core…
And now my heart was wrong. That was a hopeless way.
And though my heart’s still wrong, I can’t describe this pain. So let me tell you about it.
Is isn’t you. There’s nothing you can undo.
The storms have passed, the sky’s are clear. So now’s your chance to disappear.
There’s not a way to say “Don’t go, but please don’t stay.”
You must be black and blue from all I’ve done to you.
So let me tell you about it!
And if it’s you, there’s nothing you can do, man.
If I could live this twice, I would. You’d be in one of them for good.
Because I swear that I can trace the signs of fever in your face.
I shut the lid, I close the door. I won’t get out much anymore.
So if you love me, let me go. ‘Cause that’s the only way I’ll know
That if you love me, you’ll let go and get over it.
-Recorded in the late 1990’s at Sarcophagus Studios in Opelika, Alabama.
The band, comprised of David, Larry, Chrissy, and Jon, wrote everything. Sometimes they allowed me to holler and introduce songs based on poorly composed 5th thumb chords.
The title of the song came from some thug in Opelika. Pokin It & Strokin It.
The subject of this one old song was so fucking beautiful: If you were a woman in a river way away from New Orleans, you would’ve died a hundred times from the joy of the warm brown stream. Nothing about Katrina.
[this is where i regret not tagging all related Sarcophagus Studios posts on tumblr. Here’s a few songs that came out of that great old house: Gold is the Sky: Nocturnal Dominion, I’ll Tell You Later by Janissary Core…, Ray Manzarek by Janissary Core…]
[viva la fucking auburn, alabama. still taste blood in your mouth? :)]
